Quantitative aptitude is the most important section of the SSC CGL exam, or you might say it is the thing that decides if a candidate ranks on the merit list. In terms of the importance it receives during the CBT, it holds the top position. 250/600, or 41.67%, of your results in the SSC CGL 2022 are decided by your performance on the Prelims (50/200) and Mains (200/400). The objectives of the questions in this section are to examine the candidates’ proficiency in numbers and number sense. The range of mathematical ability is well defined and is only applicable to mathematics at the level of class 10. You can get 40 to 45 points if you know this subject well. All you have to do is answer the questions honestly. This section should be of moderate difficulty.
There are three categories in the math curriculum: arithmetic, data interpretation, and advanced math. To explain, this section includes questions on subjects like Profit and Loss, Time, Distance and Work, Average, Alligation, Elementary Mensuration, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, etc.
Note: It is crucial to examine previous year’s papers and see how the questions were divided up. This will help you to plan out your study schedule by identifying the areas that require more time and practice.
We can notice from the above table that the following 5 topics make up the majority of the Math paper.
- Algebra
- Data Interpretation
- Geometry
- Percentage/ Profit, Loss & Discount
- Trigonometry
Look below for the SSC CGL preparation plan for each of these subjects.
- Algebra
Algebraic Identities, Factorization, Simplification of Polynomials, and Simplification of Fractions are among the topics covered in the test. It is important to practise all of the questions from these topics. All of the other subjects in the Quantitative Aptitude portion are strongly related to algebra. It will be helpful for interpreting data, as well as for geometry, percentages, etc.
- Data Interpretation
Almost all of the D.I. questions are based on the ratio, percentage, and average arithmetic chapters, which you can quickly complete in 3–4 minutes and do well on.
- Geometry
The most crucial subject in the SSC CGL exam is regarded geometry. The majority of the questions are specifically about properties. Therefore, reviewing the properties of lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, circles, the concept of triplet, etc. can help with SSC CGL preparation for the topic of geometry.
- Percentage/ Profit, Loss & Discount
The fundamental guidelines used in these chapters should be familiar to you. The best method to answer many questions would be to learn formulas by heart and how to use them. Strong fundamentals in calculation and approximation will help the candidate choose the best course of action. To save time, try to use shortcuts.
- Trigonometry
Trigonometry questions in Tier 1 are typically simple. So you must get the basics ready. But keep in mind that the questions should follow the SSC CGL format. No other exam, such as the NDA or CDA, will qualify.
Do you really need to master so many trigonometric formulas?
“NO” would be the answer. Only three to four formulas are necessary to remember. You must keep in mind the fundamentals of sin, cos, tan, cot, Sec, cosec, and their interactions. Then there are 3 fundamental formulas and a table for the angle’s value. The most crucial element is that you must be proficient with tables because most inquiries may be answered by inputting values. You don’t have to figure out the complete puzzle; simply enter the value of to find the solution.
