Matthew Perry Comedian and Actor Dies at 54

Matthew Perry was an American and Canadian actor.

He gained international recognition in the 1990s for playing Chandler Bing on the NBC television sitcom Friends (1994–2004) and earned a Screen Actors Guild Award for the role.

Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, to Suzanne Marie (Langford), a Canadian journalist, and John Bennett Perry, an American actor.

He was raised in Ottawa, Ontario, where he became a top-ranked junior tennis player in Canada. However, after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to live with his father, he became more interested in acting.

Perry starred in the television series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and films including Fools Rush In, Almost Heroes, The Whole Nine Yards, The Whole Ten Yards, The Ron Clark Story, and 17 Again.

In 2010, he provided the voice of Benny in the video game Fallout: New Vegas.

Perry was co-creator, co-writer, executive producer, and star of the ABC sitcom Mr. Sunshine, which ran from February to April 2011.

In August 2012, he starred as sportscaster Ryan King on the NBC sitcom Go On. Perry later co-developed and starred in a revival of the CBS sitcom The Odd Couple portraying Oscar Madison from 2015 to 2017.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54, from an apparent drowning in his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and numerous friends and fans.
